Event: Energy & Sustainable Development – Third Annual Energy Conference

Venue: Intercontinental City Stars - Nasr City – Cairo – Egypt

Cycle: Annual

Organizers: Business News

Founded: 2014

Session: Third

Upcoming dates: 10th of May 2016

Under the patronage of Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Business News will hold its third annual energy conference entitled "Energy and Sustainable Development" on 10 May. In addition to the prime minister, the ministries of electricity and renewable energy, environment, military production, petroleum, and mineral wealth will participate in the conference.

This year's conference will discuss the government's strategy towards an energy mix that aims for sustainable development. The sessions of the conference will also address the state's direction towards diversifying sources in producing electricity through the nuclear programme, new energy, and waste recycling.

The conference will also discuss the liberalisation of the energy market, according to the new electricity law, mechanisms to provide local market needs, investment opportunities for the local and foreign private sectors in the fields of energy, and new challenges facing investors in this sector.

Fluctuations in oil prices and their impact on energy markets will be addressed in the conference through a number of oil experts and heads of local and foreign companies.

The conference comes amid a local market that, for the first time, set a legal framework to liberate the energy market and invest in new and renewable energy. It also comes after the signing of the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant convention, the feed-in tariff agreements that have entered into force as well as a comprehensive plan for the development of the electricity sector's management system in Egypt.

The petroleum and mineral resources sector have also witnessed major developments, especially after the Italian company Eni discovered the Mediterranean gas field, the decline of petroleum products subsidies, and the establishment of a gas market regulatory agency.

The conference is characterised by the wide participation of leaders and officials of the ministries of electricity and petroleum. This is in addition to the participation of government and private companies working in energy and oil fields, representatives of foreign companies operating in Egypt, and business organisations.
