Egypt, United Arab Emirates, and Italy: Strategic Agreement to Bring Renewable Energy to Europe

A strategic agreement has been signed in Cairo between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates to establish an electric interconnection with Europe through Italy, using high-capacity underwater cables. The project, which aims to export 3,000 MW of renewable energy (solar and wind) produced in Egypt, will enhance Europe’s energy security and strengthen Egypt’s role as an energy hub between Africa, Asia, and Europe.

The agreement involves the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and the Emirati company K&K, marking an important step in energy cooperation between the two countries. The infrastructure, which will stretch over 900 km, is expected to become operational within 3 to 4 years.

Firmato al Cairo un accordo strategico tra Egitto ed Emirati Arabi Uniti per realizzare un collegamento elettrico con l’Europa attraverso l’Italia, mediante cavi sottomarini ad alta capacità. Il progetto, che prevede l’esportazione di 3.000 MW di energia rinnovabile (solare ed eolica) prodotta in Egitto, rafforza la sicurezza energetica europea e consolida il ruolo dell’Egitto come hub energetico tra Africa, Asia ed Europa.
L’intesa coinvolge la Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company e la società emiratina K&K, e rappresenta un passo importante nella cooperazione energetica tra i due Paesi. L’entrata in funzione dell’infrastruttura, lunga oltre 900 km, è prevista entro 3-4 anni.

Egypt and Italy Strengthen Energy Cooperation to Accelerate Gas Production and Exploration

On the sidelines of ADIPEC 2025 in Abu Dhabi, Eng. Karim Badawi, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, to discuss ways to accelerate exploration and production programs, particularly in the Zohr gas field, which currently accounts for around 25% of Egypt’s domestic gas output. The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to providing a favorable investment climate and praised the positive drilling results achieved in recent months. Both sides also reviewed progress on the Cypriot gas transportation project, which will utilize Egypt’s energy infrastructure — a key step toward enhancing regional energy security and cooperation. At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Badawi extended an invitation to Mr. Descalzi to attend EGYPES 2026 as Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker.

Egitto e Italia rafforzano la cooperazione energetica per accelerare la produzione e l’esplorazione di gas

Durante la fiera internazionale del petrolio ADIPEC 2025 ad Abu Dhabi, Karim Badawi, Ministro del Petrolio e delle Risorse Minerarie dell’Egitto, ha incontrato Claudio Descalzi, Amministratore Delegato di Eni, per discutere i modi per accelerare i programmi di esplorazione e produzione, in particolare nel giacimento di gas Zohr, che attualmente rappresenta circa il 25% della produzione nazionale di gas dell’Egitto.

Il ministro ha ribadito l’impegno dell’Egitto a garantire un clima d’investimento favorevole e ha elogiato i risultati positivi delle trivellazioni ottenuti negli ultimi mesi.

Entrambe le parti hanno inoltre esaminato i progressi del progetto di trasporto del gas cipriota, che utilizzerà l’infrastruttura energetica egiziana — un passo fondamentale per rafforzare la sicurezza energetica e la cooperazione regionale.

Al termine dell’incontro, il ministro Badawi ha invitato il signor Descalzi a partecipare a EGYPES 2026 come Ospite d’Onore e Relatore Principale.
